Profile:
PAKTI means 'Power of Arts: Key to Inclusion' and we are a community arts organisation focusing on including and integrating people with intellectual and multiple disabilities.

The development of PAKTI has occurred over the last seven years and its role has gradually expanded to encompass, among other things, facilitating multi-art form community workshops, training of volunteers, support of families, mentoring of arts workers with disabilities, community education, co-ordination of the performances of 'Top Moves Troupe', a theatre group of artists with and without disabilities and teaching of inclusive arts at TAFE courses.

A highlight of PAKTI's activities is a bi-annual community arts conference which encourages the involvement of everyone in the community in a wide range of artistic activities. These include dance, theatre, making musical instruments, creative writing, visual arts, singing, puppet workshops and fire and ribbon twirling. There are also performances of theatre, dance and poetry. PAKTI works as part of the Integrated Youth Service and is currently developing a special disability program. In addition, PAKTI is also handling the facilitation of individual disability funding in a limited capacity. Some of these people are establishing themselves as artists and PAKTI is helping them to develop their artistic endeavours.
